Monthly Energy Consumption Forecast: A Deep Learning Approach

Jul 14, 2017 |  No comments yet

In the beginning of this year, we had a paper accepted at IJCNN 2017 for oral presentation. In this project, I had the opportunity to work in collaboration with another lab (NINFA) in a real-world problem from the largest power company of our state. We had access to an amazing database of almost 1,000,000 people, and our goal was to improve the accuracy in the forecast of monthly energy consumption. More details about our deep learning approach can be found in the paper.

OpenCV: Color-spaces and splitting channels

Nov 6, 2014 |   14 comments

There are more than 150 color-space conversion methods available in OpenCV. It is very easy to convert from one to another. We’re going to see how to do that and how to see what these color-spaces and its channels looks like. Watch the video to see how to change color-spaces and split channels using OpenCV.

OpenCV Filters: Smoothing (Blurring)

Oct 27, 2014 |   2 comments

Smoothing, usually, plays a key role on preprocessing of images, but at the same time it can enhance your result, it can also mess it. Sometimes seen as a fail in the process, a bunch of algorithms runs better on blurred images and that’s why we’re going to see how it works on practice. Watch the video to see normalized box filter, gaussian blur, median blur and bilateral filter in action. Source code available.
